
Nearly 30 years ago, Torben Möger Pedersen was the first employee at PensionDanmark. Back then, the new labor market pension fund’s members started putting aside 0.9% of their salaries. Over the years, the percentage increased to between 12–15%, and today PensionDanmark is one of the 50 largest pension funds in Europe with DKK 320bn (EUR 43bn) in assets under management.
Three decades ago, bonds were the dominant asset class for pension investors. Since then, things have changed a lot. Ten years ago, PensionDanmark was the co-founder of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and the sole investor in the two first funds. Today, CIP is the world’s largest renewable energy infrastructure investor and expects to reach EUR 100bn in AUM by 2030.
