EU bans government from billion-dollar investments in private equity funds

Since 2011, the Danish government, along with pension funds and others, has invested approx. DKK 9.4bn in funds through Dansk Vækstkapital. Now the EU has rejected a key element of the business model.

One of Denmark’s largest investors in the Danish business industry, the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO), has been banned from investing in private equity funds, the so-called buy-out funds, as it is in breach of EU regulations on state aid.
