Finnish nursing home scandal deals blow to Attendo shares

The shares of Nordic care company Attendo, listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, dived by nearly 10 percent last week as a huge furore over neglect at nursing homes made daily headlines in Finland.

The Finnish care homes crisis which crescendoed last week initially focused on privately-owned nursing home chain Esperi Care, but quickly expanded to envelop other companies in the sector -- Attendo and Mehiläinen.

Finnish state broadcaster Yle revealed that nursing homes belonging these chains too had been reported to the local authorities because of concerns over poor care standards.
