"The application of philosophy to practically any field is underappreciated"

Career path: Philosophy graduate Philip Ripman from Storebrand Asset Management made a quite unusual career change when he went from being a sustainability analyst to become a portfolio manager. Today, he is back in a hybrid role, where he identifies companies that contribute to solving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He tells his story to AMWatch.

Which career path did you imagine for yourself when you were younger?

"I think I was pretty set on a career within the Foreign Office or the United Nations. I wrote my master’s thesis on China’s evolving role within the UN Security Council, and on their views and participation in peacekeeping operations – which today seems like a pretty far cry from the world of finance.
