Varma open to tailoring more ESG products

After Varma laid EUR 200m into a new US-focused ETF by Blackrock earlier this month, Head of Listed Securities Timo Sallinen tells AMWatch that Varma could also be interested in ESG investment vehicles with exposure to other regions where it invests in equities. "We do also invest in equities outside Europe and the US," he hints.

A key challenge in expanding ESG investments in institutional portfolios remains that commercially available, ready-made ESG ETF products are still relatively scarce, and investors still need to participate in tailor making the products themselves, argues Timo Sallinen, head of listed securities at Finland's EUR 50.2bn Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company.
