AP7 to get stricter ESG rules

Sweden's largest fund will need to reduce its fossil fuel holdings, according to a government proposal coming into effect in June – but AP7 still plans to focus mostly on active dialogue rather than divestment.

The default alternative in Sweden's premium pension system, AP7, will soon be legally required to manage its capital in a sustainable way.

This will be approved by the government in June, and is part of a greater proposal going back to 2019 to introduce certain changes to AP7's asset management, which has SEK 700bn (EUR 69bn) n AUM.
