Industry veteran navigates retirement with poetry as his guide

Time has caught up with T. Rowe Price's Head of Northern Europe and the Middle East, who is stepping down to give back to those who have suffered from his career, which meant long hours and frequent business trips. He looks back on his 40 years in the financial sector, which started with a focus on himself, but ended with other people in the spotlight.

Jan Eggertsen divides life into three phases: The first, where you feel you are invincible, get an education, and a first job, the second, where the focus is career and family, and the third, where only one thing is certain - death.

As Eggertsen approaches the third phase, his own mortality has started to creep up on him.
