Overhauls, an unexpected closure and a follow-up – these are AMWatch’s most read stories of 2022

(In the first version of this article, the links to our most read articles didn’t work)

From one difficulty to the next. That’s one way to summarize the past year. While the COVID-19 period had at least one redeeming feature for investors – giving them strong returns from risky assets due to strong stimulus from the central banks – things caught up with the investment community in 2022. Fear of inflation and the subsequent high-inflation period, rising interest rates globally, and the war in Ukraine – these are some of the things that led to most global markets tumbling this year.

That’s perhaps one contributing factor to stories about alternative and illiquid assets being among AMWatch’s most read articles in the past year. Three of the top five stories are about major Nordic players putting an even stronger focus on illiquid and alternative assets. One of those articles is also a part of AMWatch’s continuous deep-dive into the largest asset managers’ annual and quarterly reports.

Subscribers also liked reading more about major organizational changes and what effects those had on their peers. One of the most-read stories is actually a follow-up to the most popular story of 2021: Nordea Asset Management restructures, creates new alternative investment unit.

Another popular piece was a story that took most of the Nordic asset management industry by surprise: the closure of Danish consultancy Kirstein, a highly regarded firm among the institutional investor community. The fact that Jesper Kirstein and his life’s work is well respected is reflected in the fact that the firm features three times in our 30 most read stories this year.

Additionally, mandate wins also caught the attention of many, and a few people moves are sprinkled in among the top 30-list as well.

AMWatch will continue to work tirelessly to be the go-to media for Nordic asset management news, with several interesting topics lined up for next year. Until then, the editorial team wishes all of our readers and subscribers a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year.
